Whales and Dolphins Watching Tour

If you ever wanted to see Whales out in the wild, you’ve come to the right place here in Uvita, Costa Rica. Humpback whales from the northern hemisphere (mid-December – March ) and Antarctica ( July—October) come here to mate and have their babies born, and you can see them teaching their calves how to breach or even jump.
The season of humpback whales has already started! We have reports  from July 15th, 2024,  so chances to see whales are 90% during this time until October 2024

Description

For those who dream of seeing whales in their natural environment, Uvita, Costa Rica, is the perfect place. Humpback whales from the northern hemisphere make their visit from mid-December to March, while their Antarctic counterparts come between July and October for mating and giving birth. It’s even possible to see them teaching their calves how to breach.

The journey starts at the distinctive whale tail formation at Playa Uvita, covering the beach entry fee. (Hint: Post-tour, stay on the beautiful beach to enjoy the tropical weather and possibly a mesmerizing sunset.) The tour offers chances to see sea life, including dolphins and various seabirds like frigatebirds and brown boobies, and to take a dip in the ocean.

Tours leave daily at 8:30 am.

In August and September, the likelihood of spotting whales on a tour exceeds 90%.

Requirements: Minimum 2 people. Must know how to swim. Available from Manuel Antonio with ground transportation. U$140 up to 4 adults  (Only applicable for whale’s season).
Includes: Bottled water, fruit, bilingual guide, park fee and snorkeling equipment, a spot to see wildlife (e.g. macaws, monkeys, and crocodiles)
Price: $65 plus taxes and fees  per person, kids under 9 years old $35 plus taxes and fees

This tour is not recommended for pregnant women or kids under 1-year-old. Kids are welcome with at least one adult companion.

Itinerary

You will meet at the tour operator’s office . Before the tour starts, your guide will provide you with safety instructions for the boat ride.

The boat takes you to beautiful sites in search for dolphins and whales. You will also get the chance to stop for a short swimming break at Ballena island or Punta Uvita.  Additionally, the trip also includes visiting the caves of Ventanas. The guide will explain details of the park and the sea widllife to you. Fruit and bottled water will be available for you during the tour.
You will be returning to the beach around 12:30-1pm.
